editore: Springer London Ltd
pagine: 587
Transesophageal Echocardiography for Congenital Heart Disease represents a unique contribution as the only contemporary reference to focus exclusively on the clinical applications of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in congenital heart disease (CHD). Written by numerous prominent specialists and renowned leaders in the field, it presents a comprehensive, modern, and integrated review of the subject in light of the cumulative experience and most recent advances in the technology. Topics related to CHD include: (1) physics and instrumentation of TEE, particularly as they apply to the structural evaluation; (2) specialized aspects of the examination, with emphases on technical considerations pertinent to both pediatric and adult patients with congenital cardiovascular pathology; (3) segmental approach to diagnosis and functional assessment; (4) extensive discussion of the TEE evaluation of the many anomalies encompassing the CHD spectrum; (5) use of the imaging modality in the perioperative and interventional settings; and (6) important aspects of 3D TEE evaluation.
Richly illustrated by more than 700 figures/illustrations and 400 videos, this textbook will serve as an indispensable resource for all who use TEE in the care of both children and adults with CHD, from the novice to the expert.

editore: Oxford University Press
pagine: 280
To the adult cardiologist, the language of congenital heart disease can be confusing and the spectrum of disease bewildering. Many find the prospect of meeting an adult with complex congenital heart disease in the emergency department disturbing, and rightly so. This book aims to dispel confusion and equip cardiology trainees, general cardiologists and acute medicine physicians with a sound understanding of the principles of the physiology and management of adult congenital heart disease, so that they can treat emergencies and recognise the need for referral to a specialist unit. With easy-to-understand diagrams and key clinical points, this handbook provides both rapid reference for use when the clinical need arises and also an insight into the basic principles of congenital heart disease, giving the reader a good grounding in the care of the adult with congenital heart disease.

Cardiovascular Genetics and Genomics for the Cardiologist
Choong-Chin Liew , Victor J. Dzau
editore: Wiley-Blackwell (an imprint of John Wiley & Sons Ltd)
pagine: 328
Until recently, a modest knowledge of genetics was more than adequate for the daily practice of clinical cardiology, but advances in genetics and genomics are changing cardiovascular medicine in fundamental ways. The identification of the genetic basis of several forms of dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, cardiomyopathies, and vascular diseases signalled the new importance of genetics in clinical medicine. In this timely volume, Drs. Dzau and Liew - both pioneers in the area - help cardiologists understand: * how cardiovascular genetics may remodel the way cardiovascular medicine is practiced * what material has immediate relevance to the practicing clinician * how to incorporate genetics and genomics in your practice to ensure up-to-date patient care The book opens with introductory chapters, then discusses: * cardiovascular single gene disorders * cardiovascular polygenic disorders * therapies and applications Outstanding contributors write on their areas of expertise, making Cardiovascular Genetics and Genomics for the Cardiologist both authoritative and comprehensive.
If you want to gain a better appreciation of how genetics and genomics are already shaping current practice and may potentially revolutionize cardiology, look no further than this dependable reference.

This book covers all aspects (biological, pathological, genetic, clinical and therapeutical) of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia, a recent cardiomyopathy which represents a very high risk of sudden death in the young and in the athletes. This monograph gathers the results of a five-year research program on ARVC/D which allowed the discovery of 5 disease-causing genes, thus opening new avenues for the early identification of affected patients.
Adult Congenital Heart Disease
An Issue of Cardiology Clinics
Gary D. Webb
editore: Saunders
pagine: 240
More than 1 million Americans have congenital heart defects, according to the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA). Congenital heart defects (CHD) occur when the heart or blood vessels near the heart don't develop normally before birth. Most specialists don't know why they occur, but they're always researching. Keep up with advances in this issue Guest Edited by Gary D. Webb, MD, FRCP(C), FACC, from the Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. The chapters planned include syndromes encountered in adult CHD patients, sudden death in perspective in ACHD, pregnancy and congenital heart disease and more.

Cardiac Catheterization in Congenital Heart Disease
Pediatric and Adult
Charles E. Mullins
editore: Blackwell Publishing Ltd
pagine: 944
The rapidly growing population of adults surviving with congenital heart lesions along with the success of interventional cardiology in the child and adolescent has spawned an incredible interest in adapting the technology for the adult congenital patients. Dr. Mullins, a pioneer in this area, has written an outstanding reference which covers all aspects of performing diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures on patients of all ages. This illustrated book details the equipment and techniques for performing safe and successful procedures, with a strong emphasis on avoiding complications. It also includes the requirements of a catheterization laboratory for congenital heart patients, as well as guidance for setting up and operating such a laboratory. Cardiac Catheterization in Congenital Heart Disease serves as an essential manual for pediatric and adult interventional cardiologists worldwide.
Pathology of Sudden Cardiac Death
B. Edwards , J. Edwards
editore: Wiley-Blackwell (an imprint of John Wiley & Sons Ltd)
pagine: 264
Sudden cardiac death represents a highly heterogeneous group of cardiovascular disorders. While some may initially think of sudden death as primarily an arrhythmogenic event, this actually represents the minority of cases of sudden cardiac death. In the vast majority of cases, there is an underlying anatomic disorder of the cardiovascular system responsible for the ultimate hemodynamic collapse known as sudden cardiac death. This book will provide an atlas type review of ischemic and non-ischemic etiologies of sudden cardiac death. Beyond the atlas, however, will be a "clinical pathologic correlation" for each described disorder providing practicing clinicians with practical information to facilitate proper diagnosis and treatment. While an increasing array of noninvasive diagnostic tools continue to develop, the sad fact remains that many of the physicians and operators of these new diagnostic modalities have never actually seen specimens which demonstrate the fundamental pathologic abnormalities. This ability to see first hand the underlying pathology creates an opportunity to advance the science and enhance ones understanding of these disease processes.
There is not a comprehensive text on this subject on the market today which provides clinical and patholigical material in such a comprehensive manner.
"Echocardiography in Congenital Heart Disease Made Simple, Cardiopulmonary Medicine Series"
M L RIGBY "A N REDINGTON
editore: Imperial college press
pagine: 150
Congenital malformations of the heart are often dismissed as a form of complex heart disease, which is too difficult to understand, and is best referred to the specialists. The advent of cross-sectional and, more recently, three-dimensional echocardiography, enables the structural malformations to be visualised virtually non-invasively.
Ventricular Function in Congenital Heart Disease

Therefore a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in both normal cardiac development and the formation of cardiovascular structural defects is of tremendous importance. This book brings together the leading scientists from around the world who are actively engaged in studies of the etiology, morphogenesis and physiology of congenital cardiovascular diseases. A broad variety of approaches, techniques, experimental models and studies of human genetics combine to make this a truly outstanding and unique treatise on this pressing topic. Cardiovascular Development and Congenital Malformations is divided into distinct categories, each focusing on a particular aspect of cardiovascular development. Sections are accompanied by editorial overviews which integrate new findings and place the information into a broader context.
