Electrical Brain Stimulation for the Treatment of Neurological Disorders
Patrick McDaniel , Bahman Zohuri
editore: Apple Academic Press Inc.
pagine: 550
In this book, Electrical Brain Stimulation for the Treatment of Neurological Disorders, the authors present their embodiment for a closed loop, feedback controlled, non-invasive application of electrical stimulation of the brain to enhance individual/group performance or to treat neurological disorders. Using a combination of modeling and experimental work, the authors have developed a unique approach to the field in combination with new technology from the perspectives of electro-magnetic and electrical engineering, computation of image processing, machine learning and neural networking, and in conjunction with the medicine of neurology and understanding of neuron behavior. They claim that non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) will provide new treatment methods with much greater simplicity, lower cost, improved safety, and in some cases, possibly greater effectiveness than well-established pharmacological methods or more recent invasive electrical deep brain stimulation (DBS) techniques.
The authors explain their techniques and the results of their experimental studies and assert that the application of tailored and individualized control of their approach can be combined with other therapy methods to treat neurological disorders while minimizing or even eliminating the use of pharmaceuticals.

Clinical Electroencephalography
a cura di Oriano Mecarelli
editore: Springer Nature Switzerland AG
pagine: 822
This book describes the developments and improvements in electroencephalography (EEG). In recent years, digital technology has replaced analog equipments, and it is now possible to easily record and store EEG tracings and to quickly recall previously acquired material for subsequent analysis. In addition, not only static figures, but also electronic supplementary materials can be included in books, enabling EEGs to be viewed in real-time.
In clinical practice, EEG still represents the most important functional examination in the study CNS development and its anatomical and physiological integrity throughout life. In the pathological context, EEG provides indispensable diagnostic information for classification of epileptic syndromes, and it is also valuable in all the other CNS diseases (infectious, cerebrovascular, neurodegenerative, etc).
Furthermore, monitoring EEG can be widely used in emergency settings, such as emergency departments or intensive care units. In comatose patients, EEG provides information regarding prognosis and evaluation of the sedative effect of anesthetic drugs.
Written by a group of leading national and international experts, it offers a substantial, yet practical, EEG compendium, which serves as a reference resource for physicians and neurodiagnostic technologists as well as physicians-in-training, researchers, practicing electroencephalographers and students.
