Dopo "L'albero verde della vita. Passi sul sentiero di una mistica del cervello" (Mimesis 2005) e "La mente che genera se stessa. Corpo e cervello, alchimia e mistica" (Mimesis 2006), continua con il presente lavoro l'opera di affiancamento della Tradizione e delle Neuroscienze. Il testo qui proposto si sofferma in particolare su alcuni autori della tradizione alchemica, i cui scritti e le cui raffigurazioni enigmatiche vengono riletti alla luce delle moderne scienze che studiano la mente e il cervello. Dietro le immagini fantastiche e gli enigmi verbali, sono spesso velati modi e percorsi empirici di conoscenza di sé e della mente umana, così sorprendenti, per gli stessi ricercatori dell'alchimia e della mistica, da dover essere occultati. Le Neuroscienze, nel loro enorme progredire e vagliare tutte le attività del pensiero dell'uomo, comprese quelle della ricerca inferiore e dell'ascesi, offrono una possibile rilettura in chiave moderna dei temi della Tradizione.

L'idea di raccogliere in un testo i principali quadri clinici otoneurologici è nata dal desiderio di offrire ai Colleghi, non solo Otoiatri, Oculisti, Neurologi, Neurochirurghi, la possibilità di una facile consultazione di queste forme cliniche che col trascorre del tempo hanno richiamato un interesse sempre più vasto. Nel secondo e terzo Capitolo sono descritti i principali quadri clinici otoneurologici d'origine periferica e centrale. La numerosa casistica, corredata da referti elettronistagmografici e neuroradiologici appartiene al Servizio di Otoneurologia della Clinica ORL di Padova, che ho diretto per oltre trent'anni.

The English Edition contains a few differences from the first ItaHan Edition, which require an explanation. Firstly, some imag- es, especially some 3D reconstructions, have been modified in order to make them clearer. Secondly, in agreement with the Publisher, we have disowned one of our statements in the preface to the Italian Edition. Namely, we have now added a brief introductory text for each section, by way of explanation to the anatomical and physiological notes.
