Epilepsy and Movement Disorders
etc.
,
Frederick Andermann

editore: Cambridge
pagine: 586
The boundaries between epilepsy and movement disorders are difficult to define; some syndromes or diseases may combine the two and many manifestations of one are similar to the other. For the first time, a distinguished, international team of specialists comprehensively examines the clinical, neurophysiological, genetic, pharmacological and molecular factors which underlie the relationships and differences between the two disorders. They examine the methods for investigating motor cortex excitability and the electrophysiological and chemical characteristics of epilepsies which resemble movement disorders. They present a scheme for neurophysiological classification of myoclonic epilepsies and myoclonus and give a detailed analysis of the disorders which cause diagnostic problems in children and adults. There is also an innovative, up-to-date review of the genetic syndromes which associate epilepsy and paroxysmal dyskinesias, and a review of the drugs used to treat, or which may precipitate, epilepsy and movement disorders. This is essential reading for clinicians and neuroscientists.

Manual of Nerve Conduction Studies
Ralph M. Buschbacher
editore: Demos Medical Publishing
pagine: 304
Now for the first time, practitioners have access to a huge database of normal values, developed using the most modern scientific protocols, for virtually any patient population! Normal ranges take into account age, sex, height and body mass index for a wide range of demographic groups to provide a complete set of reliable values for everyday clinical practice. For each nerve fiber, the author provides the nerve root level, the peripheral nerve level, and the plexus pathway. In addition, for the most common studies performed, normal ranges are provided for onset latency, amplitude, area, duration of the wave, and nerve conduction velocity across various segments. Other benefits of this outstanding book: * Provides helpful hints for performing each study * Covers the latest, most up-to-date techniques for conducting nerve sensory tests * Codifies the acceptable differences in latency, amplitude, nerve conduction velocity, etc. between nerves of the same or opposite limbs, allowing for a more precise diagnosis * Provides precise written descriptions as well as schematic depiction of electrode placements * Includes typical waveform appearance for the most common studies * Offers a concise list of references and suggested readings for each study * Includes advantages and pitfalls of alternative techniques

Microsurgery of the Skull Base
Douglas Mattox , Ugo Fisch
editore: Thieme Publishing Group
pagine: 703
Drawing on decades of experience and wisdom, Dr. Ugo Fisch created this classic text/atlas on microsurgical procedures for the skull base. The authors have labored not to popularize skull base surgery, but to provide the details of each operation, giving surgeons the valuable information they need. Each chapter of the text discusses a specific procedure and is divided into two sections, covering both the general surgical steps of the procedure and also its application. Within each chapter you'll find: general considerations; surgical techniques; applications; tips and pratfalls; imaging scans of illustrative cases; and color plates of pre- and post-operative preparation and instrumentation. The final two chapters discuss anesthesia issues and the impact of neuroradiology on skull base surgery. All of the cases used in the book reflect actual procedures, not hypothetical situations. All neurosurgeons and otolaryngologists involved in skull base surgery will benefit from having this classic text in their professional library. It demonstrates the procedures that have proven to be both safe and reliable through the years.

First published in 2016, Instant Neurological Diagnosis quickly became a must-have for the practicing neurologist looking to acquire the expertise to make rapid diagnoses. This best-selling guide became an indispensable source of diagnostic clues, starting from a patient's appearance all the way down to a directed clinical examination. In this completely revised and updated resource, the authors continue to provide a one-of-a-kind work that illustrates unique neurologic cases with their specific signs and clues, without revealing the actual diagnosis. With the aid of Handles and Flags, the reader is guided toward the correct conclusion.
These powerful diagnostic short cuts - identified as "Handles" and "Flags" - must be used with caution. Armed with the potential to save you hours of valuable time, they may even demonstrate your superior clinical acumen above colleagues. Some might permit a rapid diagnosis, while others warn a clinician to reconsider and think of an alternative solution.
